Canned Morality

Published on 15 September 2026 at 08:49

It has occurred to me that I reasonably often throw out brief philosophical musings and rants and so on over on my private media, where only my good friends and family can see it, and some of that should probably find its way over here during these times when I am too overwhelmed to do up a proper blog post and all that, so, well, I shall post it sometimes. To this end, here is one such musing:

We are SO hosed.

I am seeing people asking ChatGPT and ilk about MORALITY and THEOLOGY now. People are asking mindless machines programmed to regurgitate the most common human expressions whether or not specific actions toward individuals or society are "wrong" or "permitted by God".

Like, I saw someone who'd asked whether or not it "is OK" to dump water on homeless people in freezing weather to get them to move on, or whether dine-and-dash "really counts as stealing", or what "God wants them to do". Can you IMAGINE being a person of faith and thinking asking a MACHINE what GOD want you to DO is a good move?

(Wouldn't that be a false prophet or or something anyway? Edging AWFULLY close to graven idol, too, if you ask ,me. Graven (literally) circuits on a silicon board accumulating and throwing at you the Voices of the Damned and the Saved and the Unaffiliated all at once like a kind of Babel but distilled by a human-made mindless metal-and-electricity entity into seemingly coherent sentences... and people are taking SPIRITUAL advice from this bedlam????)

We have lost our collective soul, it's every mind for itself now. Hope you've been training yours to see reality, draw conclusions, and create internal maps and plans; your accustomed filters and assistance devices are now thoroughly corrupted.
